The Rise of eSports

Sports had historically been associated with some physical activity, but the invention of the modern computer and video games transformed how people can compete against each other with minimal physical effort and exertion. Playing against your friends on weekends transformed into playing against strangers across the world.

As a result of increased competition and skill capacity, competitive gaming organizations started emerging at the local, regional, national, and finally the international level. At first, events only happened on a smaller scale with bragging rights as the reward for winning, but now tournaments have millions of concurrent viewers and equally as much monetary value in winnings for the competitors. This is the rise of eSports.
